General Lowry attacks UN policy at Winter Haven club
Maj. Gen. Sumter L. Lowry urged withdrawal from the United Nations and adopted a motto opposing global involvement. The United World Federalists asked his resignation, arguing a division of the free world undermines U.S. policy. The Tampa Tribune criticized his public critique of national policy and warned the 51st Infantry Division could be mobilized for Korea under a commander seen as unAmerican.

China tests of force and the Korea war
RANDALL GOULD argues two modern Chinese tests of force shape U S policy. He compares Japan’s 1931 37 45 rise and the Communist victory in China noting internal unity under outside pressure and the limits of arms numbers. He warns long planned invasions from the coast risk years with no decisive result and suggests renewed U S engagement may restore economic and cultural ties if guided by prudence rather than force.
