East Town launches self-help project to spruce Center

Mount Dora’s Renaissance ’76 inaugurates the first cooperative self-help project at East Town Library and Youth Center. Volunteers including Mrs. Willie Poole, Mrs. Queen McNair and City Councilman C O Lott plan paint, carpentry, and repairs to fix unsafe interior conditions and furnish the center for working families. Greek Night marks Mount Dora festival with Greek dance

A good crowd attended Mount Dora's fifth annual Greek Night last Saturday. Hostess Jennie Logas led a Greek dance in Jennie's club Rudo restaurant where diners enjoyed Greek delicacies under a blue white striped tent. A bouzouki orchestra played after dinner into the night.

Roser Mount Dora to Sell Roses Again This Saturday

By popular demand rose bushes return to Mount Dora for sale at the Chamber of Commerce. Special roses join the Dr Huey root stock from last weekend. Plants are sold slightly above cost to promote Mount Dora as a rose city. Donors may give plants to city parks or Mother’s Day gifts.

Mount Dora Police arrest five in past week

Mount Dora Police investigated several cases in the past week. Alvin Theodus Flakes, 24, of Mount Dora, was charged with grand larceny and held on $1000 bond after a wallet and money were taken from a vehicle at Thriftway. A fire on US 441 and Robie Ave damaged a 1973 Ford pickup owned by Terry Mowrey. Two juveniles, 10 and 12, were charged with burglary and grand larceny for a Lakeside Inn boathouse theft and recovery of four canoes on Lake Gertrude. Steve Dennis Francis and Michael Lynn Adkins, both of Mount Dora, were charged with disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest after a disturbance at Sylvan Shores Lounge.
