Permanent State Board Is Planned By Governor Sholtz
Governor Dave Sholtz plans a permanent state planning board to replace the existing temporary body. The five member panel would include the state read department chair, one other state official or employee, and three private citizens. A chair from the private group would earn 6000 dollars annually, with other members at 600 dollars. The board would collect and analyze data on governance, welfare, health, transportation, commerce, land use, parks, resources, and laws to advise state officers and the legislature. A master development plan for highways, waterways, sanitation, and more would be drafted, with county boards coordinating locally. The present board was created April 6, 1934, with C. B. Treadway as chairman and an array of statewide members.

Florida Bean Market Faces Weather and Freight Pressures
Florida’s snap bean market has cooled from winter highs as shipments stay around 400 cars weekly. Prices in northern markets hover under $2 per hamper, with good stock at 1.25 to 2 dollars and off grade beans at 75 cents to 1 dollar. After May 10 to 15, abundant supplies from Texas, Louisiana, and other Southern states may erode Florida’s competitiveness due to freight advantages, while Bountiful remains the top seller in New York markets.
