Postmaster D S Simpson announces an air mail service starting April first to speed mail from Mount Dora to New York. Northbound departures from Jacksonville at 9 15 p m will reach New York the next morning at 9 15. Morning and noon Mount Dora departures will also reach New York next morning. A slight March unemployment decrease is reported by the American Federation of Labor.

Eleventh Forum Season Closes in Mount Dora
An extra Community Forum meeting in the Mount Dora Community Auditorium closed a successful season with speaker Carl Orlando and Mount Florida Optimist. Dann's talk combined humor with practical Florida history, praising the 1895 freeze for diversifying crops and roadbuilding that fueled growth. The forum, now in its eleventh year, moved to the Community Building for better acoustics. Dr. Spencer announced next season would match or exceed this year in quality and variety.

Government Allocates 6 900 000 for Fruit Fly Work
The government has appropriated six million nine hundred thousand dollars to continue fruit fly control and research programs. The funding will support ongoing operations, experiments, and related personnel in agricultural quarantine efforts.
Heath Honored By Local Clubs
Frank H. Heath secretary of the Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce received honors from the Mount Dora Yacht Club and the Chamber for four years of service. The yacht club gave an honorary membership and a walrus leather Gladstone bag, while the Chamber adopted resolutions praising his stewardship and lamenting his departure. Heath plans a trip to Marquette with his family, stops in New Orleans and Wisconsin, and the chamber will appoint Miss Louise Lane to handle office duties through summer and fall. A membership drive and 10,000 advertising booklets are planned, with a plan to be presented to the city council.

Handsome cruiser Sahara, anchored at Eustis and owned by Harry Chisholm of Buffalo, N Y., is said to be the largest of its type seen in these lakes. Captain A S Thompson sailed from New Jersey November 27 reaching Jacksonville December 23, with stops along the coast to Key West. The Florida cruise has been enjoyable despite frequent dreary days. The party toured from Jacksonville down the east coast, aided by a visit from relatives Mr. and Mrs H W Willett at Daytona Beach.

Visitors praised the elaborate display of choice plants and flowers arranged with ample space, wall banking, and hanging baskets featuring wistaria spirea ferns and vines.

Kiwanis Hears Reforestation Talk At Grand View Hotel
Kiwanis luncheon drew good attendance as W L E Barnett of Tangerine and Jacksonville spoke on reforestation. The club voted to cooperate with the Southern Forest Commission to conserve timber and fight fires while promoting tree planting. Treasurer George White reported the Frolic proceeds nearly covered Mount Dora Boy Scout troop dues. Dr. McNair, visiting past Jacksonville Kiwanis president, praised Kiwanis work and expressed interest in another visit. An invitation for Dean Buell to attend next Thursday was noted.

Mount Dora High School seniors rehearse daily for the play Tommy s Wife to be presented at eight o clock Thursday evening April 3 in the Municipal Auditorium. The cast shows strong line delivery and the French fencing master Pierre Le Bouton role by Charles Barnett draws much of the humor. Florida State Chamber Seeks Referendum on Inheritance Tax
The Florida State Chamber of Commerce has presented a petition to the national Chamber of Commerce urging a federation wide referendum on repealing the federal inheritance tax. A committee led by David Sholtz will deliver the request at the national meeting in Washington in late April. The petition says the tax, used mainly during wartime, remains in force after World War I and pressures states to adopt similar taxes. It argues most proceeds return to states and asks business groups to express opposition to the tax as a peacetime revenue measure.

The Library benefits from last Friday's Tourist Club meeting with at least 60 dollars raised. Donations by tourist visitors support library causes after club entertainment.
