H C Lassiter of Eustis announces candidacy for county commissioner from this Lake County district in the June Democratic primary. The biography notes he has resided in Eustis for over sixteen years and attributes his Florida settlement to after World War I service.
The Lakeside Inn held a large social with many out of town guests listed by name and city. Mrs J McDonald hosted a card party with nine tables of contract and prizes awarded to Mr and Mrs Harry Matthews and others. A St Patrick Day card party followed with multiple prize winners. Dr George Huntington Donaldson presented a travelogue and Arthur Delroy spoke on a topic about mastery.
March 22 1936 program features My Heart at Thy Sweet Voice from Samson and Delilah Saint Saens La Cinquantaine Gabriel Marie and works by De Koven Oppenheim Miss Hewitt Miss Hewitt and Miss Craig Naomi Hewitt Elinor Eveleth perform as violinist cellist and pianist in a Lamplit Hour recital with a mixed classical lineup.
At the March meeting in the Tavares clubhouse Lake County homemakers will hear Miss Anna Mae Sykes state nutritionist from Tallahassee. Plans for the coming flower show will be completed. The meeting includes a covered dish luncheon with Tavares members as hostesses.
The Mount Dora Theatre announces a special midnight show on Saturday at eleven o'clock presenting Zandu's Midnight Seance and Ghost Witch. A touring company led by Signa Serena a renowned mind reader performs a thrilling seance described as beyond a lecture or picture. Regular admission applies.
Mount Dora Tourist Club gathers 802 members at the Community Building next Tuesday for Karl Lehmann's travel talk on Florida under five flags. The illustrated lecture features spot photography in natural colors and is sponsored by the Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce with future attractions listed.
Town to ask State Board of Health for guidance on whether a public water supply can be cut off for nonpayment of water rent. Telegramed reply affirms the right of owner or city to discontinue service for nonpayment, with relief possible if efforts to pay fail. nuisance must be abated if shutoff causes it. He noted Beacon as well suited for wine, urged planting earlier varieties like Fredonia for better table quality, and said Florida has little future in wine or table grapes.

News officers of the Seminole County Council of home demonstration clubs include Mrs Endor Curlitt president Mrs E D Rinehart vice president Mrs L O Sangster secretary and Mrs Fred Forward treasurer. They were elected at a recent meeting of the Council.
The Commerce Chamber of Commerce supper and social planned for Friday has been called off due to illness in several members' families who prepare and serve the event.
Kiwanis members hear Major Crank defend the Townsend plan as a machine age solution to unemployment and social insecurity. He argues the fund funds 39 million people back to work, relieves tax burden, and aids veterans families, while denying government money. The talk included questions, with guests, prizes, and an upcoming forum by Sidney Page on a cross state canal.
Florida lawmakers congratulated Rep. James M Mead on purchasing a Lake County orange grove. A long time Mount Dora winter visitor and Norwalk, Connecticut businessman Mr. Smith died Friday after a hospital coma following illness at Villa Ev ans. He first came in 1896 and spent most winters here. he previously ran dry goods in New York City and Norwalk. He was mayor of Norwalk, a Mason and Shriner, and longtime Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce member. Survived by son Mason M. Smith and daughter Carrie McGlenhan, with five grandchildren. Funeral Sunday at Community Church Mount Dora.
A gardening note recommends pruning azaleas from now through July to encourage bushy growth. Pinch back new shoots to five or six inches and trim longer ones to six or seven inches. The method promises fuller plants and more abundant blooms next winter, plus azaleas as long lasting cut flowers for the home.
Fans from central and north central Florida watched the Godman Cup semifinals and finals in DeLand. Orlando beat St. Petersburg in the morning, then defeated Daytona in the afternoon to claim the Cup, extending its lead with four titles in ten years. Mount Dora, led by Skip Thomas, was the lone winner in a 15 to 12 league clash on the 12th.

H P president of the Saturday is named recipient of the Doctor of Humanity at a commemorative exercise marking the 51st anniversary of the Methodist school at Lakeland. Dr Carpenter, Kentucky Wesleyan College graduate, co founded Montverde school 25 years ago and built it into a nationally recognized secondary institution. The school averages over 150 students, many spread across the country, including a candidate for Congress from the new fifth district.
The Townsend Club reports a large turnout as Mr. Joseph Hendricks advocates the Townsend plan. Members are urged to register this month to be eligible to vote in the next primary while warnings against propaganda stress informed discussion at meetings. Next meeting is Monday April 6th.
At the Mt. Dora Theatre a romantic drama starring Margaret Sullivan and James Stewart titled Next Time We Love opens Sunday and Monday with Ray Milland. Also on the program Soak the Rich starring Walter Connolly John Howard and Mary Taylor runs Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday and Friday present F Man with Jack Haley Grace Bradley. Stormy screens Saturday followed by Desire with Marlene Dietrich and Gary Cooper next Sunday and Monday.
Mr and Mrs Douglas Hall are building a concrete block road house on the hill above Orlando road beyond Highland avenue. They plan a refreshment stand and hope to open about April first. A name has not been chosen and the public may be invited to suggest one. Public opening notice will be advertised.

Thomas H. Cooley announces his candidacy for the state representative seat. A Mount Dora resident since 1926, he is a WWI veteran and practicing lawyer with extensive local civic involvement, including the American Legion, Kiwanis, and Lake County Planning Council. He vows energetic, constructive, impartial service if elected.
