New Boy Scout Field Executive Takes Up Duties

John L. Shutt of Nashville Tennessee will report March 15 to assume the new field Scout executive role created by the Phillips Fund under the Central Florida Council Boy Scouts of America. He will reside in Mount Dora and cover the western district, while Floyd Woodward focuses on the east. James Foster remains the council Negro field executive. Shutt is a Navy veteran with Africa Sicily Salerno France Okinawa battle stars and a Philippine Liberation Award, a Peabody College graduate, and an Eagle Scout with extensive scouting service in Bradenton Florida.

A report from the State Board of Health designates Mount Dora water as Satisfactory after testing three samples collected by H. D. Overhiser on March 4. Yacht Club to Open With Gala Dinner

162 Dogs Inoculated In Mount Dora Rabies Drive

Dr. Albritton inoculated 162 dogs in Mount Dora last Friday and Saturday, with 157 dog licenses issued. Chief Story notes some dogs remain unvaccinated and reminds residents of another inoculation date in Eustis Friday and Saturday. No local rabies cases, but nearby Orange County reports cases and risk remains.

Mount Dora Defeats De Land In Lawn Bowling Match

Mount Dora won a lawn bowling contest against De Land after twelve ends then added thirty points to claim victory on February 18. In a separate match with Orlando, Mount Dora trailed early but rallied with Morse Harold Morse Roland Morse and Marsh skipping to a 22 to 16 win, while the defending Orlando quartet led by Pickard Esch Reed fell 18 to 13 to Morse and Marsh after a late surge.

Local C of C Breaks Membership Records in 1946 Drive

Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce reports 296 memberships for 1946 with expectations the total will exceed 300 after all solicitors finish. Mount Dora to Meet Eustis in Sunday Exhibition

An exhibition Lake Orange League game will be played at Helm Field Sunday at 3 30 p m between Eustis led by Geo Bacon and Mount Dora led by Howard Simpson, two former league managers. Bert Andrews starred for the Youngsters with a triple and two singles in four at bats. Wiley and Gray added one hit each. The Oldsters nearly chased the game in the third before two bases on balls and walks produced two runs.

Norman Tuckett Enters Public Health Course at UF

Norman Tuckett Jr returned to the University of Florida on March 4 to take a three month short course for public health officers. The course, offered by the university with the State Board of Health, aims to provide instructional aid to officers. He had been living in Leesburg serving as sanitary officer at the city hall.

The Kiwanis luncheon featured Meyer Shader of Orlando performing selections with Mrs. C M Brown at the piano. The Mount Dora Woman’s Club met March 6 with Mrs. Arthur P. Pratt presiding. William Jay Barker of the American Red Cross spoke on local relief work. Mrs. Geo W. Leitch spoke on surname origins. Youth Center Memberships Due at Hurricane Hut

Members and prospective members of the Hurricane Hut are urged to renew or obtain memberships. Mrs. Vincent and Lucile Minkley will be at the high school on March 15 after assembly with cards and new member blanks. Applications require a parent or guardian signature. Cards are needed at the hut door on Friday and Saturday nights. The hut was busy during the Florida State Basketball Tournament with many youths visiting after each session.

At the Eustis tournament yesterday, craftsman I M Short from Mount Dora produced about a dozen miniature shuffleboard sets as souvenirs. Each set includes a cue, discs and a holder with EUSTIS and 1946, the cues measure two and three quarters inches, with perfectly formed components fitting neatly.

Quota Assured In Red Cross Drive

The 1946 Red Cross drive for Mount Dora Lake Jem and Sorrento Branch shows over $2,200 of a $2,400 quota by Tuesday noon with expectations of topping the goal. George J. White chairs the drive with Mrs. J. A. Heist and Miss Hattie M. Allen as vice chairs, reporting substantial contributions from Lake Jem and many local donors including Citrus Culture Corporation and First National Bank. Art League Plans Sketch Class and Exhibit at Donnelly Park

The Art League continues Monday afternoon sketch sessions this month leaving the Grand View Hotel at 2 o'clock for a designated work site under Mr. Shaw. Tourists may join for a small fee. The Globes Line Exhibit opens at Donnelly Park on Saturday the 16th from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
