Mount Dora Florida hosts a January speedboat regatta that drew national attention. Boating magazine devoted two pages to the event with photos of the crowd boats and officials. The Mount Dora Yacht Club promoted the race to boost Florida marine racing, with leaders including Armin Tissot and Commodore H W Willett assisting.

Prize Offered for Clean Up Week by Kiwanis

Public spirited citizen Mrs George Zell donates a second prize for the Boy Scout who does the most to clean up the city during Clean Up Week. Band concert opens at 7 10 with no intermission

A Tuesday band concert led by John Polak will start at 7 10 due to Chautauqua and run without intermission. Park police will manage street-work impacted parking on Donnelly Avenue. The program features Johnston America Triumphant, Hayes Merry Knights Overture, Holmes Milady's Waltz, Fillmore A Slippery Rag, Storm Florida Novelette, Kirkpatrick Sacred Songs, J E Polak Trumpet Solo, Lake Alphae, Hays Best Loved Southern Melodies, and Wagner Under the Double Eagle March.

The Tourist Club held its annual picnic last Friday at Lake Gertrude with about two hundred attendees. Games singing and socializing capped the day as Mt Dora locals expressed appreciation for winter visitors.

Truskett Addresses Florida Grape Growers on Commercial Rules

E. E. Truskett spoke to the State Growers Association of Florida outlining four key conditions for any product to succeed commercially. He stressed demands production marketability and price and profits with facts and figures and called it one of the most enlightening discourses on grape growing. The speech will be published in the Topic next week for those involved in commercialization.

Dr Milner Celebrates Eightieth Birthday in Mount Dora

The Milwaukee era Rev Duncan C Milner of Chicago and Mount Dora marked his eighty fifth birthday on March 10 with a Bible class service and multiple appointments. He spoke to local groups and received many messages from family including a granddaughter in Singapore and a grandson at the University of California. Milner, Civil War veteran wounded at Chickamauga, credits health to a strong constitution and Florida air. He has spent nine winters in Mount Dora with friends and associates praising the town’s climate and friendships.

D A R members gathered at Mrs D B Simpson’s home last Thursday afternoon for a pleasant meeting with Mount Dora and Ocklawaha Chapter members and visitors. Forty three attended as the Mummers Club performed The Persian Thief to general appreciation. Refreshments were served. The next meeting will be at Mrs Erwin’s home in Eustis on April 1.

Burglary Strikes Eason Home In Mount Dora

Thieves entered the E R Eason residence in East Mount Dora Monday afternoon by removing a screen from a bedroom window. They took a purse with five to ten dollars and two pocket knives, left the window open and tools on the ground, and did not ransack the home. Police were notified.

Chautauqua Opens With Week of Deep Interest Programs

The Chautauqua opened Wednesday with a three day program drawing a large audience. Miss Selma Mae led preparations and publicity after staging a parade of school children on Tuesday. Tuesday night featured a local talent program with solos, a male quartet, violin and song numbers, drawing enthusiastic crowds. The opening afternoon offered a strong roster and the church was filled to capacity with期待 for the week.
