A Long Island area lawn bowling club reports on ill members Margaret DeGraff and Eddie Peer, recent weather delays, and upcoming events. Mount Dora's Junior Chamber of Commerce celebrated its charter last Saturday at the American Legion Memorial Home. Uriel Blunt of DeLand presented the charter to L. Walker Horsley, with Mrs. Horsley observing. The event included a banquet, dancing, and remarks by Walter Beck of the Washington Senators pitching staff.
Amid a busy shuffleboard week in Mount Dora Lake County, 57 teams from five clubs competed for the Robbins trophy with Mrs. Sharpe Mrs. Garriott and others fielding Ladies teams and B Owen McCauley Kreuter Keesling among the top mixes. Rain interrupted play Thursday and Friday forcing postponements while the Saturday dinner brought 152 players to a roast beef party with Vera Ward and Opal Jackson providing entertainment.
Gertrude E. Velguth of Flint Michigan speaks on Christian Science Soul's Restorative Power Revealed at 8 p.m. in the Mount Dora Community building. She is a board member of lectureship for The First Church of Christ Scientist in Boston and will discuss spiritual understanding of God restoring health and harmony.
Still behind last year in Mount Dora, the year to date rainfall is 10.6 inches, about four inches short. For the week Feb 25 through March 3 the area recorded 3.2 inches versus 7.2 inches a year earlier, with figures supplied by Mount Dora Growers Cooperative.
Washington fans can see the Senators in spring training action in Orlando three times next week. Saturday versus Detroit, Monday against Philadelphia, and Wednesday March 11 versus New York. All games start at 1 30.
