Mount Dora Regatta Spectacular and Narrow Escape at Lake Dora
Mount Dora hosted a festooned regatta weekend with a grand ball at the Yacht Club drawing locals and visitors. Mrs Sally Lawrence narrowly escaped drowning when her speed boat Miss Bess struck a submerged steel flag pole at 45 mph, sinking after limping to shallow water. Patrol boats recovered the pole and the boat was to Wise Boat Works for repairs as about a thousand spectators watched the final races on Sunday.
