Rotary Continues Survey on Home Funds in Lake County
County Commissioners will discuss whether to keep the one mill levy funding a home for the aged in Lake County at the 1955-56 budget hearing. About 87,000 in the fund exists, enough to buy land and possibly finish construction, though Rotary clubs and the Health and Welfare Council want the survey completed before diverting funds. The fund cannot be diverted for two years without a new legislative act, though the commission may abandon the tax anytime.

Council Rejects County Plan On Registration
Mount Dora City Council tables county plans for a county wide voter registration system. Officials fear loss of the personal touch of city registration and doubt voters will travel to Tavares for re registration. Current rules require city registration for city elections and county registration for broader elections. The county plan would remove dual registrations and allow ongoing checks by the county.

Council Delays Seconday Street Closure Amid Growth Warning
President Wayne Moon warned against abandoning streets as the city grows. The council delayed action on a request by Mrs Marian Hadlock and her son in law to close a right of way east of Clayton Street. Undeveloped tall brush now occupies the 50 foot city owned strip, and a street would require a huge culvert as stated by Street Chairman Bill Prinz.
