Secret Club Formed by Six Tennesseeans Became Powerful U S Regulators
In December 1865 six young men in Pulaski Tennessee formed a secret group that evolved into the Ku Klux Klan. Led by Judge Jones’s law office, the group created odd titles such as Grand Cyclops Grand Magi and Night Hawks. The name Ku Klux Klan arose from a suggested Greek word Kuklos with Clan added for alliteration. The ghostly public displays and rituals spread beyond Pulaski, Tennessee under General Nathan Bedford Forrest, shaping Reconstruction era terror and lawfulness in one.
