He wintered there six years until age eighty and found joy in showing color slides to children and teaching the hobby of phy xiative of Massachusetts. Fire Destroys Vacant East Town House

Firemen battled a vacant East Town residence overnight but could not control the blaze. Fire Chief Harold Larsen reported no cause could be found and described the home, owned by Joe William, as a complete loss.

Cuban Army Surprised by Water Bottle Bomb Near Havana

Mount Dora resident Fred Sleight and his wife Eleanor toured Cuba on business and archeology for the Central Florida Museum. An army scare arose when a water bottle with a red top was mistaken for a time bomb, later dismissed after a letter from President Batista confirmed courtesy to the visitors. The Sleights described Cuba under martial law with improving roads and schools and warned Batista could win loyalty by investing in education and water projects.

Good Samaritan Is the Innocent Bystander

An automobile crash at a Bay Grove intersection near Mount Dora and Eustis killed Nell Fischer, a bystander who died after aiding others in a truck stand collapse. Several others, including children and drivers, were injured. Fischer died after arrival at the hospital.

Council weighs Mount Dora land for aged home site

City officials appointed Councilmen Prinz and Simpson and Mayor Patton to study a request to grant 10 acres of city land for an elderly home north of llthav near East Town. Dr. E. E. Lewis reported six blocks in Lake County were identified as the best site in a survey for the welfare project promised by the Board of County Commissioners. The committee will confer on city approval before approaching the Welfare committee and county commissioners.
