The amendments extend mortgage terms, permit HOLC to buy shares in Federal savings and loan associations, and enable housing administration to insure accounts and organize mortgage associations. Applications for distressed mortgages begin immediately and must be filed by June 30 using HOLC supplied forms.
A new store combining Jason's Groceteria Hancock's Meat Market and White's Home Bakery opens in the Fountain Inn Building opposite the 5 and 10 Cent Store. The trio of proprietors Jason Smith Hancock and Charles Streetoe have long local trade experience and promise to meet sharp competition.

Remodeling work fills days at former Cashwell's Pharmacy now Mount Dora Pharmacy and at the Drugg Variety Store as they renovate ahead of planned openings. Stores add floor space, rearrange displays, install a larger fountain, and refresh interiors while stock is updated and new goods arrive. A separate note says bids close soon for enlarging the Congregational church auditorium, with work expected to start promptly.

Wilmer C. Stokley of Bucknell University Lewisburg Pa is slated to graduate this year with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Finance. He specialized in economics and served last year as manager of the varsity baseball team. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
The library lists new titles including Come and Get It by Edna Ferber and Green Lights by Lloyd Douglas. The Dime Parties raised $10.42 with four hostesses and three hopeful hostesses contributing. The library invites friends to host small gatherings with various entertainments. Summer standbys are simple tires in a four-wheel context.
The 1935 Florida state census shows limited changes in the House of Representatives with Santa Rosa and Columbia losing a delegate while Broward and Bay gain one each. Population booms occurred in tourist areas with Dade as the most populous county and Jacksonville the largest city, while many rural counties rose modestly.
The Red Cross branch thanks supporters for puzzles and books donated. About seventy puzzles have been received at the Topic office, with more items welcomed this week to be shipped to the veterans hospital early next week.
The Town Council met Tuesday night and arranged payment of 20000 in water bonds due July 1. This brings total bonds paid since November 1, 1934 to 37300 and reduces total bonded indebtedness to 369000.
The state redraws its five congressional districts for 1936 elections. The Fourth gains southern counties and loses Duval to the Second and Jefferson to the Third, while the Fifth absorbs Citrus and Lake from the Second and other counties. The new map lists district counties and the November 1936 election for the Fifth district.
An epidemic of Diamondball Fever hits town with many victims in mild to delirious condition. Dr Keller calls it a severe but non fatal illness. Nineteen players exposed at first practice at the school grounds. Regular practices set for Fridays and Tuesdays at 5:30 pm to welcome new participants and form teams.
The King’s Daughters urge aid for a widow with three dependent children needing immediate radium treatment and possibly an operation. Appeals were made in Baptist and Methodist churches with good response, and a further drive is planned through the Topic for those not yet reached. Contributions may be sent to Mrs. Brakith? E to assist.
Triangle Gas Company formerly serving Eustis and Umatilla announces name change and rate cuts. A Mount Dora survey shows growing demand, prompting a display floor in the Simpson Building at Donnelly and Fifth avenues with a full line of gas appliances including stoves water heaters and Electrolux refrigerators.
Eighteen students from Mount Dora and nearby areas completed high school with baccalaureate services on May 26 and commencement on May 31 in the Community Auditorium. Notable features included class plays, Latin grammar and history talks, a keynote by Dr. J W Norman, and campus honors such as Citizenship Medals awarded to Roy Christopher and Ruth Harvey.
The State Agricultural Extension Service reports three new carnation varieties created by the Bureau of Plant Industry. Oletto is a dark red bloom, Mavourneen shows a pale pink hue, and Carlotta rounds out the trio with its own distinct coloring.
