Mount Dora Pioneer James W. Simpson Turns 99
James Warren Simpson, Mount Dora native known as Uncle Jim, celebrated his 99th birthday with family at Turner's Restaurant. Born May 31, 1878, he helped shape the town from citrus farming to banking, chaired committees, built packing houses, led the Mount Dora Bank and Trust, and served on the town council and chamber of commerce.

Morgan resigns seat on Mount Dora city council
Jack B. Morgan resigns from Mount Dora City Council effective May 31 after buying a home just outside the city limits. The city attorney cites state statutes on representation while Morgan says he sought a larger home for over a year and cannot pass up the opportunity. The residence is on Morningside Drive in Sylvan Shores. Morgan led an eight-candidate field in the 1975 election for four council seats and was in his first two year term.
