Mount Dora Celebrates Centennial Ties To Beecher Visit
Mrs. Elsie Ruwaldt returned from Beecher Illinois where Beecher marked its centennial and her birthplace home, now owned by Illinois Bell, hosted over 3000 visitors. The house, refurbished by the Women’s Welfare Club, recalls 1915 to 1938 when she served as a local telephone operator. A Congregational minister and his descendant Dr William Beecher Scoville attended to unveil the cake. Mount Dora’s near centennial settlement history and early native presence are noted.
