Fire Crews Respond to Three Monday Emergencies
The fire company answered three calls Monday. In the forenoon a stove fire at Grady Cooley's home, 131 Ninth Avenue West, was quickly extinguished. In the afternoon a blaze at D. McDonald's home on Tavares Lake Shore Drive, thought to be from an unknown origin, caused more damage after a partial extinguish. McDonald's previous home burned two years ago and the current house was recently built.

Lake County Chamber of Commerce met in Tavares for a July session. A Kissimmee Board of Trade invitation to a waterways meeting July 24 was read. A $200 deficit payment for the county exhibit at the Central Florida Exposition was acknowledged. The audit covering 1930 31 was approved. Two University of Florida Gainesville scholarships and one Florida State College for Women Tallahassee scholarship, each worth 200 a year for four years, are open to Lake County high school graduates. Exams cover English Literature General History American History and the Constitution and Algebra, with a passing grade of 70 percent. Exams scheduled at Tavares high school on Tuesday August 7 at 8:00 a.m.
