Mount Dora residents and families converge for a Mount Dora reunion in Milford Connecticut. Barbara Nelson hosts winter Dorans with guests Maude Sarver and others sharing nostalgic talk of chilly May and June in Florida town. The piece notes forthcoming October return and an apple convention in Washington attracting two Mount Dora families.
Lakes and Hills Garden club and the PTA organize shrubbery maintenance at Mount Dora school with Tuesday work sessions after 8 a.m. Volunteers bring pruning tools or gloves and can bring children for care. Project leads include Mrs. Slater Cox, Mrs. Harry Hopcraft, and Mrs. Robert Travers assisted by Mrs. C. J. Brown and Mrs. Milton Mills.
Lakes and Hills Garden club remains active in summer with committees planning for fall. President Mrs. C. J. Brown mails a weekly newsletter to 125 members in town and across the country. Chairmen named include Backus Program Land Landscaping Calhoun Publicity and many others guiding the year’s projects and events.
The Home Demonstration club will hold an all day sewing session at the Community building on Wednesday July 26. Mrs Gay McDonald says members will sew clothing for children at the Umatilla Crippled Pysye home and bring a needle and thimble for the 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. event.
Mrs Walter R Whitcomb of Uma tilla leads Lake County Home Demonstration clubs delegation attending the State Home Demonstration Council at the University of Florida this week. Also attending are Miss Pearl Stallings Leesburg Mrs Elizabeth Kelly Eustis and Mrs Morris Campbell of Tavares.
Pastor James H Sutley will discuss becoming Christians in a Sunday morning talk with music directed by Mrs Harold Larsen. Evening Baptist service features a fest and songs with Sutley delivering No Room for Boasting. Methodist Rev Robert M Blackburn preaches Having the Right Enemies with a music program tonight. Church board approves funds for a new two story school building to adjoin the sanctuary, with move of the Parish House and shared supervision by J G Ray Jr and O H Conway.
Dr. Perry B. James former Mount Dora Methodist pastor and new Athens college president spoke to 300 GI students on the Athens campus praising their common sense attitude and emotional maturity during his first anniversary as college president last week.
The Ladies of the Lake will entertain Scottish Rite Masons and their wives at a pot luck supper Friday at 7 30 p m. The event takes place at the Riley Park community building. Reservations contact Mrs C W Cliff of Eustis, chairman.
