Seaman Apprentice Mike Meade aged 18 completed 13 weeks of Basic Training at the Orlando Naval Training Center and is assigned to the Naval Academy at Norfolk Virginia to study communications. Lorene Brown Deviese, a 1966 Mount Dora High School graduate, earned a 4.0 GPA and a Bachelor of Design degree from the University of Florida.

First Federal assets rise in Lake County during 1970
First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Lake County reports assets up about 2 million for the first half of 1970. Assets at June 30 total 36,987,000 with earnings distributed to savers totaling 808,300 for the period. Mount Dora High to Launch Summer Band Program
Mount Dora High School will begin a two session summer enrichment band program for students from elementary through high school starting July 20. New band director Lewis Nelson will lead sessions July 20 to 31 and August 10 to 14 from 8 to 12 hours, with a 2:30 PM session in the afternoon. Nelson arrives after 12 years at Fulton High School in Atlanta and plans meetings with participants to prepare for the upcoming school year. He will be at the high school starting July 20 to register eligible students.
