State Comptroller Urges 25 Percent Lake County Valuation Rise
Lake County officials told commissioners and the school board that assessed values must grow by at least 25 percent to meet state comptroller orders. A corresponding millage reduction of about 20 percent is proposed so the county still raises the same revenue on the old 80 percent basis. The increase, aided by higher Homestead Exemption taxes, would raise the total county valuation from 297 million to about 371.25 million, an additional 74 million. Lake County has until Sept 15 to submit new figures, with officials noting the 25 percent rise puts Lake County on par with other counties.
