Mount Dora Man Wins Scholastic Prize in Physical Therapy

George Beni Arnold of The Woods Mount Dora Florida earned the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis scholarly prize for physical therapy. He studied at Stetson University DeLand and Orlando High School and will enter Duke University for therapy training. The prize supports a nationwide shortage of therapists highlighted by infantile paralysis epidemics.

Lake County Canning Capacity Soars With New Plants

Ormund Powers reports Lake County will boost total canning capacity to three to four million cases yearly with plants under construction or planned. Existing makers include Howey Leesburg Wegner Eustis Burkart. new sites at Fort Mason near Eustis Leesburg and Clermont push investment to about 700000 across seven plants.

Lake County Sees 2591 Telephones In Use

A Florida Telephone Corporation report to the Lake County Chamber of Commerce in Tavares says at least one in four families has a telephone. The county currently has 2591 telephones in use and a large waiting list of potential subscribers awaiting fewer restrictions to obtain service.

Town Officials Burn $34,000 in Refunding Bonds

Town executives gathered at the TOPIC office burned thirty four one thousand dollar bonds from the 1940 refunding issue as six thousand dollars Water Bonds No 1 eight thousand Donnelly Park Bonds and twenty thousand Water Bonds No 2 were redeemed with cash. A second bonfire was hinted as all redeemed bonds are turned in and the Town Hall mortgage paid in full.

Kiwanis Club Hosts Leesburg Health Leader

Mrs Onie Ruth Hunter executive secretary of the Lake County Tuberculosis and Health Association spoke to Kiwanis members in Leesburg with about 395 attendees across eleven county gatherings. The club also noted a Fourth of July program by Rev George Gibson and paid tribute to Robert Gould with a Kiwanis plaque.

Morning Worship at First Methodist Church This Sunday

The Service of Morning Worship begins at eleven at the First Methodist Church with Rev. George Gibson delivering the second in a series on God and the Fact of Suffering. The sermon titled Lights That Shine in the Darkness. Choir directed by Mrs. C M Brown sings They That Trust in the Lord.
