Shuffleboard results and weather affect Mount Dora club play
The Mount Dora Shuffleboard Club reports a busy week with six Red and Black games for men, three courts for women, and supervision by President Ture Anderson. Rain disrupted the Red and Black tournament on January 9 and a January 11 event, now rescheduled for January 19 and 20. First high Red went to Ray Wood and Al Becher, 253, while Black leaders were John Jones and Harland Wheeler at 244. Wood-Becher won the playoff 105 to 92. Second Red tie of 248 featured Ray Elliott and Mrs. French versus John Sachs and Clyde McCauley, with Sachs-McCauley taking the shoot-off. Second Black went to Mr. Clapp and Mr. Economas at 232. Sachs-McCauley won 100 to 70 in that playoff. Officials included referees Lyle Wood and Charles Havlik, umpires Harold Brown and Mr. Noll, scorekeepers Mrs. Pier and Mrs. Wheeler. Lake County singles winners from Clermont included Lyle Wood first, Lee Wimberly second, Al Becher fourth. A January 11 club meeting was held. Bill Voebel missed time due to illness but attended this Saturday, with Bennett Root also hospitalized.

Fire Destroys Frame House in Mount Dora
A Sunday fire destroyed the frame residence of Louise Pearson at 602 East Pine Street, a loss of about 5500. Mount Dora firefighters reported the cause undetermined as Engines one and three fought the blaze before it grew too far advanced. An accidental drill distraction occurred when they were called to extinguish a blaze at the City dump, offering on the job training with negligible loss.
