Lehmann Receives Farewell Leave For Florida War Bond Work

Karl Lehmann, praised as a tireless force behind Florida war bond sales, took a 90 day leave of absence extended to a month of vacation by the Lake County Chamber of Commerce. He directed state war finance efforts from Jacksonville and traveled about 200 000 miles coordinating committees and speeches. Florida's defense bond sales totaled 1 619 654 021 dollars. Lehmann plans return February 12 and retains ties with the War Finance Committee in Jacksonville.

Grand View Hotel Sees Wide Stream of Visitors

Daily arrivals fill the Grand View with guests from many states and Canada. Notable parties include Mr. and Mrs. Hicks, Mr. Kerr, Capt. Bowdish, Dr. H. B. Stewart, Captain H. H. F. W. Davidson, aged 73, received his third award at the Naval Air Base in Jacksonville. The major honor recognizes his inventions and the department reports a 150 percent rise in production due largely to his work. Davidson modestly calls it “not so bad for an old man.”

Christmas Seal Sales Report in Lake County

Mrs. Onie Ruth Hunter announces Lake County has raised 8322.24 from Christmas seals and bonds, up 19 percent from last year at this point. Town receipts include Leesburg 3167.10 and Mount Dora 1011.00, with 900 contributors still expecting to pay. Reminders were sent January 15 and the county aims for 9000.

Dayona Beach Hotels Destroyed by Fire in Daytona Beach

Two famous old tourist hotels at Daytona Beach were destroyed by fire early Monday morning. The flames started in the Daytona Beach hotel which had been condemned and was not occupied and spread to the Trackers escaped with out injury. No estimate of the damage was available Monday.

On January 1, First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Eustis purchased the entire mortgage portfolio of Lake County Federal Savings and Loan Association of Tavares. The Tavares association is liquidating, with all mortgage matters handled by the Eustis unit. The Eustis association paid a 4 4 percent semi annual dividend to shareholders.
