Mount Dora Loses Esteemed Clerk and Treasurer

William C. Stewart, Mount Dora's clerk and treasurer for 13 years, died last week after a battle with cancer. A respected finance officer and community leader, Stewart helped keep the city fiscally sound with low taxes and smart investments while serving as president of the Florida Finance Officers association and an instructor at a UF short course. He supported Lions Club and Mount Dora Golf Club activities and advocated cancer research and prevention. He died young, not yet 39, leaving a city in mourning and a call for renewed crusade against the disease.
