Life insurance firms hold record 42 billion in mortgages
The Institute of Life Insurance reports life companies acquired 6.1 billion in real estate mortgages in 1960, a 2 percent rise from 1959. Conventional urban mortgages totaled 22.5 billion, FHA 9.3 billion, VA 6.95 billion, and farm loans reached 3.0 billion, with an optimistic 1961 outlook for mortgage financing and housing growth.

Hospitals need not lose money says UF expert
