Pancake Day Fundraiser At Mount Dora Schools

The Mount Dora P T O schedules Pancake Day on February 27 1971 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at MDHS Cafetorium to raise funds for the air conditioning project. Pancakes with sausage butter syrup milk coffee and orange juice available. Tickets adults 1.50 students 1.00 preschool 0.50. Pancake Day chairs are Dr Randall Whitney and Dick Jackson with Principal Joe Folsom as honorary chef.

Mount Dora Citrus Exec to Receive Distinguished Alumnus Award

Owen W. Conner III, Mount Dora citrus executive, is one of four Florida Southern College graduates chosen for the 1971 Distinguished Alumnus Award. He will receive an alumnus plaque at the Homecoming Banquet for community service and citrus industry leadership. Conner, a 1961 FSC B.S. citrus graduate, heads Oklawaha Citrus Nursery and Packing Co., and serves on Mount Dora Bank board, St. Edwards Church vestry, and in Masonic and Shriner orders.

Mount Dora approves lakefront condo and 12 unit apartment

Mount Dora City Council advances a lakefront condominium with 25 units including private boat stalls near Wise Boat Works. A 12 unit Park South style apartment at Fifth and Simpson gains preliminary approval after rezoning lands from R1 and R2 to R3 by a 5 to 2 vote. The council also votes on building size limits and removing flashing lights and waving flags.

Mount Dora Names McCullough Summer Recreation Director

McCullough formerly of Mount Dora and now at Lyman High School is named Mount Dora's new summer recreation director, replacing Benny Hutton. The action followed a Wages and Personnel meeting after the City Council session where salary and tennis qualifications were cited as reasons.
