Resemblance To Hemingway Spices Life In Spain For Visitor

Kenneth H. Vanderford, an Indiana native with degrees in Latin and Spanish from Whittenburg College and further study at Washington State and the University of Chicago, now lives in Madrid as a bull fight aficionado. He recalls touring Spain in the late 1950s, being mistaken for Ernest Hemingway, autograph hunters, and editors who failed to recognize him. He notes the Spanish public’s belief in likenesses, the humor of his bearded look, and his choice to stay in Spain for the slower pace and bullfighting culture, which he describes as a little play with the bull rather than a sport.
