Florida Waterway Congress Opens In Mount Dora News

Florida Waterway Congress meets in Mount Dora with Vernon Stone and Electra Platt entertaining attendees at the Tourist Club. Notables including Gen. Julian S. Schley and Senator Spessard L. Holland join sessions from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Community Auditorium. A preconvention dinner and a remote broadcast are planned, with tickets 60 cents and advance reservations via Karl Lehmann.

Mount Dora High seniors rehearse three act comedy

Seniors at Mount Dora High School rehearse This Genius Business a three act comedy by Higgins Strachan for the annual senior play to be performed at the Community Building on Friday evening. Committees oversee production with Dedrick Green heading a list of seniors assisting in lighting, properties, program advertising and ticket sales.

Song Service at Methodist Church Sunday Evening

An old time Song Service will be presented at the Methodist Church Sunday evening February 27 at 7 30 under Mrs C M Gudgeon organist. Many familiar hymns have been selected for new and singing. Knights of Pythias District Meeting Draws District Delegations

Mount Dora Lodge No 134 hosted a district meeting in the Community Building social rooms on Wednesday February 9 with seventy visiting Knights and three Grand Lodge officers from seven lodges. The event featured high school essay contests with three cash prizes and a top prize of free lodge membership for the highest graduating student. Grand officers judged the essays and awarded later, after considering all entries. E R Dickerson of Tampa spoke as the evening’s guest, and an oyster supper followed for the one hundred ten Knights and guests.

Mount Dora women joined St Petersburg clubs for friendly matches in St Peterburg and nearby cities. In one test Sprague Eckis Gould Wilmot fell to Osgood Moffatt Young Byers 13 to 25 while Thomas Maben Bradner Ganin beat Candelet Post Paterson Curren 16 to 14. About twenty Mount Dora players toured to St Pete Clearwater Bradenton and Sarasota enjoying club hospitality and the sport.

Mount Dora will stage a two day flower show on Tuesday and Wednesday March 22 and 23 at the Community Building sponsored by the Woman's Club. Art League lecture charms Lakeside audience

The Art League hosted a lecture by H N Gallie at Lakeside on Thursday evening. Slides showcased historic sites and the Cornish Riviera with tropical plants amid a musical program led by Mrs Hilary Garvin and Miss Faustine Towne. The event featured performances of Glorious Devon and Land of Hope and Glory. The annual exhibition opens February 21 for one week with tea served Monday afternoon.

Girl Scouts Meet in Mount Dora With Miss Colson Gift

The Mount Dora Girl Scouts met on Monday February 14 with guest Mrs Colson captain of the troop presenting a book of Girl Scout stories. The Humming Bird Patrol led by Missi began first aid study and a hike and picnic were planned for next Saturday. Lena Harding received a Girl Scout pin as the meeting closed after taps.
