The Wesleyan Service Guild of the Mount Dora Methodist church will meet Thursday February 19 at 7 30 pm in Fellowship Hall. Mrs Rollin Javens will lead the program. Hostesses are Miss Ruth Collins Mrs Rowena Dooley and Mrs Rollin Javens.
An appreciative crowd at the Community building enjoyed a Dance Drama Co. show featuring young performers ages 19 to 30. Emily Frankel led with Child's Play and Haunted Moments while Terence Miller joined the closing number. A teen gang scene ended with a boy being stabbed, leaving Marvin Gordin briefly stunned before rejoining.
The Bethune Cookman college choir presents a 7 p.m. concert at the Methodist church. Rev James Jones preaches The Art of Inner Relief at the morning service. Rev John F Mangrum discusses Most Famous Human Writer in History at St Edwards Episcopal church. Lent observances begin with Week of Compassion seeking 550000 for the underprivileged. Mrs Adrianne Lowe sings Sheep May Safely Grace. Bible Class at First Church of Christ Scientist reads John 316 and 4. Soul is the Sunday lesson-sermon topic for healing power.
Mount Dora Presbyterian church hosts a February Pot Luck supper on Wednesday at 6 30 p m with division of food by initials A E vegetables or salad F J meat K O dessert P R meat S T vegetables or salad U Z dessert Rev Walter Creameans of Winter Park will speak on Women in Lincoln s Life Members and friends invited.
James Jones spoke at the Methodist church on Sunday evening arguing life has no purpose without God. He warned Americans chase gadgets and comfort yet lack a mighty, meaningful aim. He urged reflection on national and international life to regain purpose.
World Day of Prayer spans 144 countries and 60 languages with 1000 dialects. The combined Mount Dora churches meet at the Community Church with Dr. Robert Reed opening devotionals and Rev James Jones delivering the closing benediction at 7 30 p m. Lake County Ladies Chorus provides special music. Rev George Kress opens the evening service and Dr Lester Doerr speaks with Rev C ms Carriel delivering the benediction.
Ashtabula County holds its annual picnic dinner in Eustis at 12 noon on Wednesday. Members should bring table service and a picnic dinner with beverage.
