Mount Dora prepares for a big presence at the Orlando fair next Wednesday. Under George W. Malone’s direction, residents urged to transport companions, decorate cars with banners, and join a coordinated 8 AM assembly on Fifth Avenue and Donnelly Street.

Death of A. C. Banks on Monday in Mount Dora

Alfred C. Banks died at his Clayton street home after an extended illness. A longtime Dixie Highway Garage worker, he retired about two years ago. Born in Mount Kisco New York he moved to Florida in 1920 and settled in Mount Dora in 1922. Survived by widow and two daughters Harriet and Violet both of Mount Dora. Funeral at his residence Tuesday 3 PM conducted by Rev. Dr. Vincent and Dr. Spencer. Interment Forrest Cemetery.

Dredging Work Commences on Haines Creek

Dr. Dickson reported extensive dredging needs on Haines Creek after a Tuesday survey. Telegrams went to Colonel Gilbert Youngberg and Mallory and Sell detailing dredge routes from Stark’s Ferry to Leesburg and the plan to start Oldsbrook with twelve men on Wednesday.

Mount Dora Tourist Club in Florida presents varied weekly programs to foster sociability. Last Friday featured minutes, reports, readings, organ and vocal numbers by Mrs. Slocum and Miss Davis, recitations by Mr. D. T. Tees of Montreal, instrumental pieces, and an upbeat finale. Nearly two hundred people attended the Grandview Hotel banquet for Mount Dora Kiwanis Charter Night. Delegations from Eustis Paginas Tavares Clermont and Orlando plus local members filled the dining room decorated with blue and gold. Speakers included Clyde Hunnewell G W Sherman Dr R Edwards and T Jeff Bailey. The charter was officially presented by Lieutenant Governor Cheney with the Kiwanis motto We Build highlighted.

House warming for Dr and Mrs Williams

A surprise house warming for Dr and Mrs Williams drew about fifty friends last Wednesday. The party gathered at Councilman C. C. Dooley’s home and escorted the couple to their Fifth Avenue residence.
