The Florida Symphony Orchestra may perform a Children’s Concert Friday afternoon in Mount Dora if the $300 funding goal is met. Mrs Celia Claflin Shaw reports few parental donations, with major gifts from childless music lovers and winter visitors. Councilman Robert Walker will meet Fire Chief Harold Larsen to decide on a new siren placement in Tremain and Ninth or downtown, after Siren Salesman Charles Elliott deems the current two-horse power unit obsolete. He proposes a seven and a half HP siren costing $500 and notes mounting on a water tower could be heard in Mt. Plymouth but not Mount Dora. Elevation differences between the current station and Tremain Ninth site prompt consideration of using the city garage or a separate pole and platform, with some council members preferring the present location to avoid a $5 monthly relay system.

From July to January Dorans had 338 tons of garbage to be hauled to the sanitation fill. Work Supt. Rollin Javens informed Council Tuesday night. He said that represented two tons a day. He also said the city is breaking even on its city garage thru savings in gas oil and auto parts.

Jail extends phone after intoxicated airman incident
Mount Dora council approved installing an extension phone at the jail after an incident last week where an Orlando Air Force man was arrested for drunkenness at the American Legion dance. Four base officers protested alleged manhandling. the man was ignored for two hours in jail with a wound.
