Four candidates are under consideration for City Judge with Judiciary Committee review before a hire or recommendation. Zoning declined Edmund Scott's request for an antique shop variance, while a new R3-A code proposal would permit only certain apartments and business uses.
Mount Dora parents and the Lake County School Board debated Milner Rosenwald Academy becoming a middle school next year. An overwhelming majority favored keeping it open. only three voted to close. The school, with a 100 percent Black student body, will integrate by September. The district outlined space to house grades five and six at Milner Rosenwald and to send Rosenwald students to Roseborough, with portable classrooms able to accommodate seventh graders. A final decision was not set until March.
The Mount Dora Jaycees announce a Valentine Road Rally on February 8 starting at 1 p.m. from the Bank of Mount Dora lot. Entry fees total 3.00 per car with 1.50 for driver and navigator, and 12:30 p.m. report time.
The Chamber of Commerce schedules an O-J Coffee for February 12 at 8 a.m. in the Community Building. Pink Cottage Candies hosts the event and will present a speaker from the Electronic Warfare Range at Astor with slides.
Mount Dora police say four break ins over the weekend at First Federal City Hall Jimmy's Electric and S M Farm Supply were carried out by professionals. Chief Bud Huett reports three definite leads and says deputies are assisting in investigations.
The Mount Dora PTO hosts Pancake Day at Mt. Dora High School Cafetorium from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Adults pay 1.00 and children 0.50 for all you can eat. Proceeds go to Operation Cool Kid. Dr. Randall Whitney is general chairman, Carlton Johnson is chef, and Dr. Clyde Stevens is honorary chef.
