February weather brought a quick warm spell in Mount Dora as residents shed coats but citrus trees on the town outskirts suddenly browned. Freezing and warm spells are noted as not mixing well.
The Mount Dora City Council voted 6-1 to raise water rates starting March 1. The increase targets the average resident, adding about 50 to 60 cents per month, after a state law barred higher charges for out-of-city residents. Councilman Tyrone Parker opposed the measure as the council concluded a busy session.
