Lake County Farm Income Led by Citrus in 1965
Lake County agribusiness reached 85.7 million with citrus driving the total. On tree or at the farm gate returns stood at 48.1 million, while harvesting and processing added 37.6 million. Citrus produced 15.55 million boxes, including 5.85 million Valencia and 5.45 million early oranges, with strong prices and continued expansion after the 1962 freeze. Lake County remains the nation’s second largest citrus region, housing 8.38 million commercial trees on about 120,000 acres plus 12,000 acres of non commercial plantings.

Local stores and shoppers boosted the holiday season with plans for early buying. Leonard Phillips at Western Auto sold 80 bicycles and warned stock was nearly depleted.
