Dorans remembered their hard working postmen and collected donations for the Post Office Appreciation Fund totaling 150 dollars. The anonymous fund started two years ago to secretly honor mail workers overloaded with holiday cards and packages. Funds were turned over to Postmaster Harry Hopcraft for distribution among regular postal employees.
Mount Dora's Ground Observer Corps will go on standby next Tuesday along with other members statewide. The unit led by Mrs. Margo Hosford will maintain readiness to meet tests every 30 days and respond to any emergency.
The King’s Daughters and Methodist Church Women’s Society mobilize meals toys and cash gifts to assist families displaced by the December freeze. Anonymous donors provide 100 50 and 25 dollar gifts and baskets of food reach 30 families with Christmas dinners and 30 toy cartons. Lions Club also distributes food and toys while churches rest homes receive candy and support.
