Bees Aid Fruit Growers Through Pollination Activity
A USDA clip sheet describes how a beehive pollinates crops, with a pollen trap estimating daily loads. One colony can reach about 8,000 pollen loads per day across 80 plus blossoms, summing to tens of thousands in a single bloom period and millions yearly in a prolific season. Researchers note fruit crops benefit when blooms are abundant, citing a 29 000 load day and 32 percent million blossoms in a productive period. Early Lake County watermelon planting outlook suggests over 2 000 acres may be sown if conditions stay favorable.
