Twenty five second graders enjoyed a Christmas party at the home of Mrs. W. F. Duggan in Sylvan Shores. Assistant hosts Mrs. Shipes, Mrs. Cory and Mrs. Treadwell helped entertain with outdoor games, indoor Santa gifts, decorations, and festive refreshments with their teacher Miss Doris Camp.
Mount Dora chapters announce public installation of Mount Dora Chapter No. 103 O E S on Monday December 30 at 8 pm. The Monday Card Club hosts a session at 2 30 pm with three hostess names listed. Epworth League and friends enjoy a boat ride aboard City of Mount Dora with a long list of attendees including Captain Harry Wise and many locals.
A stream of visitors arrives for the winter across Mount Dora area. Mrs. Fred Chase of Belfast Maine and many others from Massachusetts Ohio and New York settle at Kil Kare Lodge Harrold House and nearby lakeside inns while several local residents travel from Bridgeport and Croton Falls to spend the holidays.

Mr. and Mrs Griffin Daves of Addison Alabama announce the birth of a seven and a quarter pound daughter on Monday December 16. The baby has been named Roberta. This is the second daughter for Mr and Mrs A E Davis of Mount Dora.

Home Demonstration specialists in Tallahassee share dessert ideas for Thanksgiving. Pumpkin Pie notes warn against overbaking and excess spice, with a detailed recipe using pumpkin, brown sugar, spices, eggs, milk and cream. Fig Pudding provides a full method with suet figs bread crumbs milk spices walnuts raisins and baking powder, plus a butterhard sauce recipe.
Fourth item describes a citrus cake recipe with butter frosting. Ingredients include butter sugar eggs orange rind juice water flour baking powder and salt. Instructions cover creaming, folding, baking in layers and assembling with orange butter frosting.
A vintage cake recipe lists eggs flour and sugar with Marmalade and nuts. It instructs creaming shortening with sugar, adding eggs, sifting and alternating dry ingredients with buttermilk, folding in marmalade nuts and candied fruit, then baking in a greased pan at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. A Christmas service at the Sorrento church drew about fifty due to bad weather. Planned events include a December 27 Sunday School pageant led by Mrs. Noble, a Christmas tree for children, and a New Year’s Eve party at the Sorrento Auditorium with booths serving modestly priced treats and a midnight watch service.
Safety Harbor resident Mrs. S. E. Lewis, 64, reportedly cut a third set of teeth and her gray hair darkens, with improving eyesight and perfect health. Attorney J Irvin Walden appeals to the Supreme Court arguing State Senator T G Putch may violate the state constitution by serving as attorney for the State Racing Commission. Circuit Judge ruled Walden must show authority. Walden asserts the constitution bars a single person from exercising functions of more than one government branch.
Lake County schools receive 9220.66 from a half billion pre Christmas fund. Governor Sholtz Comptroller Lee and State Superintendent Cawthon announce a total of 1 275 560 in state aid for this term, more than double last year's 598 893 91. Distribution includes 100 000 from Motor Vehicle Expense Fund 150 000 from General Revenue Fund and 250 000 from auto tag sales.
Florida farmers are urged to conserve soil moisture, grow legumes to build humus and fix nitrogen, rotate crops, and install irrigation for citrus. Emphasis on hay and home-grown feeds, low production costs, suitable land use, and improved marketing to fetch better prices.
