Negro Thief Caught After Fierce Fight
The Watt home at Wood land and Grandview avenues saw a desperate struggle Friday night as a negro thief hiding under a bed fought Mr. Watt and Mr. Frank Fowler. Fowler used a bent poker to subdue him before Mount Dora police arrived. the man identified as Jonnie Wright from Atlanta was arrested and jailed in Tavares. Final population figures for Florida from the Fifteenth Census show 1,468,211 residents on April 1, 1930, up 499,7 or 31.6 percent since 1920, the highest gain among states except California. Jacksonville remains the largest city, with 129,549 people, while Miami and Tampa exceed 100,000. The state covers 67 counties, 14 cities had 10,000 plus residents, and Dade County led in numerical gain with 100,202.
