City officials seek to influence annexation vote over utility concerns
City officials met with Ward and W. C. Johnson of Winter Park and drafted a distribution letter to Sylvan Shores residents. The letter states that a private firm buying the local utilities and supplying power is very remote. Ward says there was no intent to influence the annexation result. FPC notes and a Rumor Fact dispute are cited, and the city ad implied it was paid advertising via Mount Dora Topic. Harry Fogg of Sylvan Shores plans street improvements with Lake County help and cites a moral obligation for city fire protection.

Camp Challenge Director Speaks at Rotary Club
Mr. L. Paul Murray, director of Camp Challenge near Mt. Plymouth, spoke to the Rotary Club of Mount Dora about Florida Easter Seal Camp and its sponsorship by the Florida Society for Crippled Children and Adults. He described the camp’s facilities and rehab focus funded by Easter Seal and contributions. In 1964 Florida Easter Seal programs provided over 100,000 rehabilitative treatments to more than 9,000 handicapped individuals, with Camp Challenge founded in 1960 as a pioneering Florida project.

UF Coach Fuller To Speak Today At Kiwanis Meet
UF assistant to head coach Ray Graves Dave Fuller will speak at the Kiwanis Club of Mount Dora. He also heads UF baseball, with teams that have won SEC titles. Kiwanis officers invited Mount Dora High School players and coaches to hear about the Sugar Bowl bound Gators, who finished 7-3 and prepare for the January 1 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans against Missouri.

The Mount Dora Jaycees eighth annual Christmas Parade drew an estimated 9000 spectators along Donnelly Street led by Santa Claus. Explorer Post 19 served barbecue in Donnelly Park with over 400 enjoying the meal. Parade chair Lewis Carroll Jr thanked sponsors including Mount Dora Pharmacy and Lakeside Inn for enabling seven Lake County high school bands to participate.
