Edgerton Weighs Cabinet Bid In Florida Politics
Tampa Tribune reported a push in Tallahassee to have State Secretary R A Gray resign so Gov. LeRoy Collins can appoint Richard Edgerton of Mount Dora as Hotel Commissioner Gray, 79, will not seek reappointment next year due to health. Edgerton says the idea is fine but he has not discussed it with Gray. He has not decided definitively about his own candidacy, noting the timing could aid reelection if appointed before the campaign. Edgerton says the cabinet post includes presiding duties when the governor is absent and is more administrative than political. He plans to press newspapers for support while weighing a bid in the coming days.
