Girl Scout Leaders Enjoy Novel Cruise to Silver Springs

A Florida group of Girl Scout leaders sailed from Grand View to Silver Springs Court aboard the City of Dora for a Scout convention voyage. They traveled via Dora Canal and Lakes Dora, Eustis, Haines Creek, Lake Griffin, and the Ocklawaha River, enjoying meals, songs, and planning sessions.

Tourist Club Get Acquainted Night Draws Large Crowd

Nearly two hundred people gathered in the Hageman Secor rooms for the Tourist Club opening meeting. President Quixley presided with Carl Graves leading singing and the Wise orchestra performing. Mayor Simpson welcomed guests and praised the club. George White of the Chamber of Commerce spoke, and Peabody explained the winter program. Helen Lemert announced 300 memberships already sold and a 700 goal for the year. A social hour followed with punch served by Elizabeth Evans committee.

Evangelist J C Barnes Preaches at Mount Dora Church

J C Barnes evangelist of the Church of Christ is preaching in Mount Dora. The local group worships at Mrs Zelma D Sills home near the crate mill with services each Sunday at 11. The church plans to build a new house of worship on a well located city lot. The public is invited to attend.

Bazaar Supper Next Wednesday at M E Church

The Methodist Church Ladies Aid Bazaar will be held next Wednesday in the church social rooms. It begins at two o clock with fancy articles, homemade candies, and useful household items for sale. A hot plate supper will be served from 5 30 to 7 00 at 25 cents per person. The Ladies Aid will meet Friday at 3 o'clock at the church to make final arrangements.

Old Building Razed at Donnelly and Fourth Avenues

Work is in progress tearing down the old frame building at Donnelly and Fourth avenues on the former Butts property now the Town of Mount Dora. Robert Goodman whose barber shop has been in that building has moved to 450 Donnelly Avenue. Buy Christmas Seals.

Dr Quixley Moves to New Chiropody Quarters

Dr C L Quixley, chiropodist, has moved from Crane apartments on Alexander Street to the Post Office building in rooms once used by David S Simpson Jr. The new offices are larger and will gain added equipment soon.

Town Council approves new street lights on Highland avenue

At Tuesday night’s meeting the Lighting Department was instructed to install the new type lights at street intersections on Highland avenue from the overpass south to the town limits. The report notes four tentative tales.

Townsend Mass Meeting In Orlando With Mr Clements

R E Clements co founder with Dr Townsend and National Secretary will address a mass meeting at the Auditorium in Orlando on Sunday afternoon December 8 at 3 oclock. An overflow audience is expected as 2500 gathered to hear Dr Townsend last summer on twenty four hours notice. The event aims to mobilize interest around the Townsend plan and attract supporters from nearby areas seeking to match crowds in larger cities.

Candle Light Musical by Woman's Club

The Candle Light Musical will be presented by the Woman's Club in the Community Auditorium on Thursday December 12 at 730 PM. Admission is a toy or gift for the King's Daughters. Park Board Proposes Shuffleboard and Croquet Courts

Dr. R. W. Dickson spoke for the Park Board at the town council meeting to seek a 120 dollar appropriation to complete funding for new shuffleboard and croquet courts. The project cost is about 360 dollars, with 240 to be advanced by the Chamber of Commerce and repaid from the Park Fund when funds are available. the council approved the appropriation and construction will start immediately.

The American Legion Pageant at Mount Dora Theatre drew a large crowd Friday night. Twenty five contestants backed by local businesses competed with Miss Hazel Henderson winning Miss Mount Dora 1935 and Miss Peggy Norris as runner up. Junior winners Phyllis Turner and Nell Marie Connor tied as Miss Mount Dora Twins. The event raised a satisfactory sum for Mount Dora Post No. 35.
