In Mount Dora the city offers homes set among stately trees and tropical plants. Many properties overlook lakes or sit in groves, ranging from simple bunga lows to elegant structures with lush landscaping and radiant flowering vines.
Mount Dora’s deep well supply with chlorine safeguards earns high marks from the State Board of Health. Analysis dated August 20 1936 shows total bacterial counts of 120 and 170 with no colon confirmation, deeming the water very good.
The Rev. Perry B. James is transferred to the West Virginia Conference to serve First Methodist Episcopal Church in Parkersburg, effective September 15, after three years here. He has led Scout activities, joined the Chamber of Commerce, and the Mount Dora Kiwanis Club. Dr. Heber D. Ketcham moves from Parkersburg to the St Johns River Conference to lead the Parkersburg church, after a career including Knoxville and Cincinnati pastorates.
Mount Dora hosts five active churches with pastors Rev J S Wilson Rev A M Brodie Dr Heber D Ketcham Rev E Moore and J O Barnes. The congregations include Baptist Congregational Methodist Episcopal Church of God and The Church of Crist offering year round services and visitor hospitality.
Mr. Dave Wiley relinquishes the Standard Oil Station at Alexander and Fifth. Mil lard Reid and Ernie Green will assume management next Tuesday. Rising gasoline costs and taxation have limited automobile use in Europe and Asia.
Adam Hazelwood turned 96 on Wednesday in Mount Dora with friends visiting and well wishes. Mrs. Jensen and Mrs. Young hosted a surprise supper at his home. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Young, Mr. and Mrs. Jensen, and many local residents from Mount Dora and nearby Eustis.
Baseball news notes upcoming games: Umatilla at Mount Dora at 3 30 and Leesburg at 3 30 Sunday. The team finally won 16 11 against Clermont in the first game of a doubleheader, then lost 5 0 in the second. A 8 2 win over Apopka followed on Sunday.
Mrs Ethel Turner Worthy Grand Matron and Mr George E Turner Worthy Grand Patron will visit Mount Dora Chapter of Florida Order of the Eastern Star on Wednesday evening at 8 15 PM at the Yacht Club. Mr. R. P. Stout will fund an audience at the First Methodist church in Mount Dora for a Friday lecture on America’s most beautiful memorial parks at 8:00 p.m. on August 28. There is no admission charge and Stout will pay the Ladies Aid twenty five cents for each adult attendee.
This week arrivals from Miami stopping at the Grand View Hotel include Mr and Mrs F M Fay and son George and Mr and Mrs Y G Pope. Mount Dora is proving a popular summer resort for Miami neighbors.
Mrs. A. A. Cooper comes home Saturday from Lake County Medical Center in Umatilla after malaria fever illness. She thanks friends for kind remembrances while she was there.
Eight year old Tommy Kelly surprised on Tuesday afternoon by catching two one-pound bass on a single fishing strike at Lake Dora.
Ten Lake County service clubs and Central Florida Council Boy Scouts leaders attended a luncheon at Inland Beach. Prominent speakers including Colin English and university figures urged youth program support and civic involvement.
Mrs George L Zell earns Tampa Morning Tribune grand prize in a statewide amateur snapshot contest. Her two earlier wins add to a total of two two dollar prizes and a fifteen dollar prize with a shot at the Newspaper National Snapshot Awards.
A Mount Dora appeal urges community donations to cover a $100 hospital bill for a local woman needing an urgent goiter operation. A specialist has donated services if funds can be raised soon. Donations may be given to King's Daughters members or at the Topic office.

William Francis Bloodgood 71 prominent citrus grower and Dora Citrus president died after major operation at General Hospital Orlando. Born Nov 20 1864 in Northville Michigan he lived in Fulton Missouri before moving to Tangerine Florida twenty years ago to manage Hunt groves. Funeral held at St Thomas Episcopal Eustis with interment Forest Cemetery Mount Dora. Survived by widow daughter grandson brother and two sisters. Pallbearers named.
