WISHES HE WAS BACK IN LAKE R. S. Crawford of Tavares writing from New York to the Lake County Chamber of Commerce notes unbearable heat and a lack of breeze. He says June rains and July heat have harmed farming, with bad showers washing out crops roads and bridges. Crawford sends lists of prospective visitors and year round residents for follow up with personal letters and literature inviting them to the central hill and lake region of Florida.

Calvin Collins of Umatilla finished second among all boys in the Orlando Box Derby last week. Ralph Schuur of Orlando won a free trip to Akron and a shot at Carnegie Tech scholarships or a Chevrolet prize for top finishes. It marked the first Florida placement and first Lake County entrant in the national derby, with Jackie Allen of Umatilla also advancing to the semifinals.

Inoculates Hogs In Lake County Large Cholera Vaccination
Lake County agricultural agent R E Norris inoculated 250 hogs north of Mascotte last Saturday. Leon Staford owned the hogs. The operation used 7000 units of serum and 500 units of virus at a cost of 33.27 dollars. The inoculation, completed in about half a day, is said to render the animals cholera immune for life and covers about a quarter of the year’s planned vaccinations.

The forty year old Rooks citrus grove in Lake County's Fruitland Park was sold last week to Mrs. R. H. Upson a high school teacher in Oceanside New York. The Grove was bought from Henry and George Schlosser for about eighteen thousand dollars.
