Police Capture Two Stolen Cars In Mount Dora

Last Friday night Mrs. Sally Lawrence reported her car stolen after her maid heard it being moved. Officers Kelley and Chief Palmer found the Lawrence car and another on the Tavares road. the second car belonged to Mr. White of Ocklawaha and had also been stolen. Officer Kelley drove to Ocklawaha to return it. A separate incident at 1:00 a.m. involved an attempted garage theft on George Malone’s property but the car was moved only a short distance. Citizens are urged to report thefts promptly.

Mount Dora Chamber Plans 13000 Topic Mailings

The Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce approved a publicity drive to send 13 000 copies of the Mount Dora Topic to 1000 prospective homeseekers and tourists across thirteen issues starting August 13. Three thousand illustrated booklets will be mailed nationwide and placed in major travel offices. Council Acts Sets 1931 Assessments and Fees

The council met in town hall with six councilmen and the mayor present. The Sylvan Shores Company agreed to compensate firemen responding outside the city. Assessor Grant Cowles reported total real estate value 3 538 405 and personal property 211 376 for a total of 3 749 781, about one third lower than previous. The council unanimously approved the assessor’s 1931 roll. A plan to exempt some organizations from Community Building charges was tabled. Budget discussions for 1931 32 to be funded by taxation were sent to the mayor for approval. Routine bills were handled.
