A rash of shoplifting at the Mount Dora shopping center led police to round up seven suspects. Chief J. T. Huett said the group, linked to Umatilla, conducted regular thefts on weekends and most merchandise was recovered except for food items eaten. The seven posted 25 dollar bonds and forfeited them at Municipal Court. Separately Judge Jesse Wilmott handled six traffic complaints including one driving while intoxicated and seven disorderly conduct cases.

Funeral services for George M. Mack Johnson publisher of the Mount Dora Topic were held Monday at the Rehbaum Chapel with Father Charles H. Hay officiating. Johnson, a Mount Dora resident for nearly three years, co managed the Topic since Sept 1 1960 and had a 40 year journalism career including roles with Prudential Public Relations and various wire services. Interment followed at Pine Forest Cemetery. Johnson is survived by his wife Valerie Keyes Johnson and a sister.
