Leesburg to Moss Bluff Inland Waterway Project Planned
An inland waterway over 25 miles long with four feet minimum depth and 60 to 66 feet width will be dredged from Leesburg to Moss Bluff on the Ocklawaha river. Dredging by DesRocher & Watkins Towing Co. follows a contract by federal engineers, with further work planned toward Heather Island and Silver Springs Run to extend navigable water to the St Johns near Welaka. Local officials, Chamber of Commerce leaders, and the Leesburg Transportation Co. officials showed support and noted use for both freight and pleasure boating. The inspection team included Mayor W A Mackenzie and City Manager D E Bivins.
