England Lecture Highlights At Lakeside Art League

The Art League closed its season with H N Gallie presenting England slides from the University of Florida and Carnegie Institute. Sideswipe accident on Highland Avenue leaves car damaged

H W Harlow escaped injury when his car was sideswiped by Willie Glenn of Quincy Florida Monday morning at Highland Avenue and Camp Street. Glenn, en route to Miami with two others, clipped the left front fender, struck a fire plug, and broke it, then crashed through the fence. He paid a $23 fine to Mayor Simpson to cover the fire plug replacement and related costs.

Cottage Burned On Lake Gertrude Property

A tenant cottage on Mr. A. G. Moss property at Lake Gertrude burned Saturday night. The house and furniture were a total loss though the cottage was unoccupied at the time. origin of the fire is unknown. Loss is understood to be partly covered by insurance.

George Malone of Malone Realty Co closed the sale of an orange grove at Umatilla owned by R O Jasperson of Milwaukee Wisconsin to Dr M Kennedy secretary of the Florida State Game and Fish Commission in Tallahassee. Malone notes strong demand for groves and says other deals are ready to close.

Mount Dora Hi Y Club held a meeting at the High School and elected officers for 1937 38. Bayard Roberts was named president with William Turrentine as vice president and Edward Kimball as secretary. Curtis Minkley is treasurer Theo Green chaplain and Richard Shipes sergeant at arms. Several members will attend the Hi Y Congress at Camp Roosevelt Ocala April 30 to May 2.

Final Race in Mount Dora Winter Regatta 1937

The final race of the Mount Dora Winter Regatta 1937 for sailing and power yachts occurred on Saturday April 10 at 3 PM. Five power yachts contested the handicap event with staggered starts to finish together across two laps of a three mile course. Poise a new 17 footer by Wise Boat Works led early and briefly, but Spray, winner of all March races, closely chased finishing nearly tied as the wind held choppy seas.

Newcomers at Montverde welcome Blair and families

Capt. George A. Blair of Nashville who served in World War I with the 116th Infantry has bought the Montverde property including the home grove and is moving his family to Lake County. He was connected with Maj. John M. Robeson who runs a fishing camp in the area. Mr and Mrs Osgood purchased the large McEwan grove and home on Lake Apopka at Montverde and have moved in.
