Mount Dora reveals new community building design and plans

The Mount Dora community building, a 74 by 58 foot Mediterranean style concrete structure on Sixth Avenue, features a 72 by 53 foot auditorium with 8 seating capacity, stage facilities, four dressing rooms, and a potential to expand to double capacity. Garden Club Tour Of Winter Park Estate Grounds

About thirty members of the Garden Club visited Golden Glow the estate of Mr and Mrs Elmer Johnson near Winter Park. They toured the grounds kept in a natural jungle like state with moss hung trees swampy areas a stream to the lake and a miniature desert with sand and rocks. No rattlesnakes or camels were seen. The hostess joined the visitors for a tour of the house.

Will Redeem City Bonds

At Monday night’s council meeting the city treasurer was instructed to redeem Mount Dora Electric Light Bonds maturing January 1, 1938, for $5,000 with park and accrued interest and Mount Dora Water Bonds of $100 or $500 denomination maturing January 1, 1985 for $5,000 at par and accrued interest. The treasury’s condition justifies redeeming bonds totaling $10,000.

New Light Rate Cuts Mount Dora Power Costs

The March savings from a new contract with Florida Power & Light Co. reduce costs for Mount Dora by 402.50 dollars. The saving will be shared with consumers as a roughly fifty percent rate cut, with the remainder used to offset Light Department expenses.

Scout Camp Opens for Summer in June

The Boy Scouts of Central Florida announce Camp Wewa will open for the summer season. On June 14 H A Zurn returns as camp director with a staff including Leathercraft Metalcraft model airplane building marksmanship swimming lifesaving and many other subject instructors. Evening camp fires will feature guest speakers plus songs stunts and vaudeville by the Scouts.

Council Adopts Steps to Collect Delinquent Assessments

At the adjourned Council meeting on Monday night the panel discussed delinquent assessments. Officials noted unjust propaganda delays payments from property owners who can pay. The city attorney was instructed to proceed with collection and a preliminary report was presented.

An accident Monday night on Tavares Road near McDonald Street occurred after a driver disregarded a Stop sign. Both cars were at moderate speed with no injuries, though damage was sustained. Mount Dora trails 9-8 after leading through the early innings as Orlando plated runs late amid wild play by Mount Dora. Vic, Charlie Norris, Clovis, and Akron Frosh contributed home runs while Simpson pitched well before the late breakdown. Tavares defeats Mount Dora 5-4 as errors cost the home team. Baptist Missionary Rally Planned by East District

The East District of the Baptist Woman's Missionary Union Lake County Association will convene Thursday April 17 at 10 a m in the Baptist tabernacle for their annual Rally. The Delinquent Tax Adjustment Board has been continued through April. The Lake county board will meet in Tavares on April 16 and 30 to consider applications for adjustment of delinquent taxes.

Benefit Monday For Equipment At Community Hall

A benefit card party will be held next Monday night April 14 at the Community Hall to raise funds for furnishings for the social rooms of the building. The event starts a series of spring and summer entertainments organized by local committees to equip the rooms with dishes kitchenware and artfully furnish them for Mount Dora visitors next fall. Tickets cost 50 cents and both men and women are invited to attend.
