First Car Of Cucumbers Leaves Lake County Market

The first cucumber car from Lake and Sumter counties fetched 6.20 a bushel for fancies 5.15 for choice and 3 for culls at auction. G G Oldham estimates the 1936 crop at 165000 bushels with about 90 percent expected harvest. Multiple cars are expected weekly as the season opens amid market price trends.

Red Cross Aids 100000 Families In Flood Stricken Area

The American Red Cross aided over 100000 families across thirteen states after mid March floods. In Pittsburgh and Johnstown alone 117000 people were fed sheltered or clothed as flood and cold worsened conditions. Air drops and airlifted supplies aided towns while volunteers expanded to 200 relief workers and 200 nurses. A relief fund of 3 million dollars was sought with many chapters exceeding goals.

Mount Dora Churches Set Thursday and Friday Services

The Mount Dora Methodist and Congregational churches announce two Holy Week services. On Thursday the Union Services run from twelve to three with the theme The Last Seven Words of Jesus and six speakers presenting words of Intercession Pardon Care Loneliness Need Victory and Trust. Organists and soloists join the community gathering. A Holy Communion service follows at Community Church at eight o clock with Dr A M Brodie and Rev Perry B James administering.

Fish Market Moves to New Location in Mount Dora

The Mount Dora fish market has relocated from 4th Avenue East to 424 Alexander Street opposite the post office. Owner Dr. Richardson, who bought the old property months ago, is tearing down the building to expand the business and carry its regular seafood line.

Plan Revue For Red Cross And Hospital Fund

A chamber meeting Tuesday night organized the Lake Orange Baseball League for 1936. Directors from Apopka Clermont Kissimmee Mount Dora Umatilla and others set the eight team goal, with six teams assured and elections and by laws to be adopted next Tuesday. Possible expansion could add Eustis Leesburg and Winter Garden.

Dr Will L Wood to Have His Own Office Building

Dr Will L Wood, who bought a vacant lot at Donnelly and Fourth avenues with the former Lacock property, is preparing the site for remodeling the residence into offices. Construction will begin soon with a concrete block addition, stucco finish, and a fireproof roof. The interior will be remodeled into modern offices for his practice.
