Wabash River study shows need for better water use understanding
Purdue researchers led by Julia Wiener find that in summer virtually all water entering Indiana’s Wabash River is withdrawn and returned, creating a cycle where the river is effectively emptied and refilled. The study, published in Science of the Total Environment, warns that data gaps hinder watershed scale management and notes most inflow comes from treated wastewater and power plant cooling.
