Near-death moment shapes Carpenter’s coaching journey
Wabash Valley College coach Mike Carpenter from Linton Indiana survived a heart arrhythmia in high school and resumed sports. He later collapsed on campus during a conditioning period waking in hospital. Doctors said his playing days might be over but he and his family encouraged broader goals. He now emphasizes resilience to his players while steering a 21 10 team last season and compiling 233 wins as head coach.
